There’s a version of “founder recognition” that only ever goes to the same handful of names, the ones who’ve already raised the mega rounds, already made the magazine covers, already have their Wikipedia pages sorted. We’re not doing that this time.
Techclout Africa is opening nominations for 50 Emerging Founders Shaping African Tech, 2026 Edition, and it’s built specifically for the founders and co-founders who haven’t gotten their moment yet. The ones building something real, moving the needle in their corner of the ecosystem, but still flying under the radar of the bigger spotlight. If you know someone like that, or if that someone is you, this is worth five minutes of your time.
What we’re actually looking for
This isn’t a popularity contest and it isn’t reserved for people with the loudest social media presence. We’re looking for founders, co-founders, or founding leaders building technology driven companies, products, platforms, or solutions that are genuinely contributing to the growth of Africa’s tech ecosystem, wherever they are on the continent, whatever sector they’re in.
Specifically, we’re paying attention to:
• Strong execution, not just a good idea on paper
• Real innovation, something that’s actually solving a problem differently
• Measurable impact, traction that can be pointed to and verified
• Industry relevance and the potential to shape where the space is heading next
Who qualifies
A nominee should be actively building or operating within the African tech ecosystem, at the emerging stage of their journey rather than someone already universally recognized as one of the continent’s most established names. They should have some verifiable presence too, whether that’s through their company, their product, media coverage, or credible activity in the industry, something that lets us actually confirm the work is real.
You can nominate yourself. You can nominate someone else, as an investor, a colleague, a customer, an industry peer, a mentor, or anyone who genuinely knows their work. Founders don’t always put themselves forward, and honestly, some of the best ones we know would never think to.
What you’ll actually need to nominate someone
The nomination form is fairly detailed, on purpose, because we want the list to mean something. Here’s a quick sense of what goes into it, so you can gather your information before you sit down to fill it out:
• Basic info on the nominee: full name, title, email, country of residence, where their business operates, and their LinkedIn profile
• Company details: startup name, website, industry (fintech, healthtech, AI, edtech, climate tech, e-commerce, SaaS, Web3, mobility, media tech, cybersecurity, or whatever fits), year founded, headquarters, and countries served
• The core of it: why this founder. A 150 to 250 word case for why they deserve recognition, what they’ve built that sets them apart, what problem they’re solving and why it matters for Africa, and what measurable traction they’ve achieved, users, revenue, funding raised, jobs created, partnerships, or real social and economic impact.
How this actually works
Submitting a nomination doesn’t guarantee a spot on the final list, and there’s no fee involved at any stage. Our editorial team reviews every submission, checks the evidence provided, and where needed, does additional research and verification before anything gets finalized. The final 50 will be chosen based on innovation, execution, impact, traction, relevance to Africa, leadership, and overall contribution to the ecosystem.
The strongest nominations are specific ones. Vague praise doesn’t help us verify anything, so the more concrete detail and credible links you include, the stronger the case.
Why this matters
Africa’s tech ecosystem doesn’t have a shortage of founders doing meaningful work. What it has is a shortage of spotlight reaching far enough to find all of them. Every year, credible, high impact builders go unnoticed simply because they haven’t had the media relationships, the connections, or the timing to get featured anywhere that matters. This list is our attempt to close that gap, even just a little. Fifty founders, properly vetted, properly recognized, and given a platform that can actually open doors, investor attention, partnership conversations, media follow-up, the kind of visibility that compounds long after the list itself goes live.
