AI Nigerian co founded artificial intelligence startup, Minicor, has raised $3.8 million in seed funding to help businesses connect modern AI applications with older software systems that are difficult to integrate with newer technologies.
The San Francisco-based company was co-founded by Nigerian software engineer Saheed Akinbile and Faizaan Chishtie. Its technology focuses on a problem faced by many businesses that still depend on traditional desktop applications: these systems often lack application programming interfaces (APIs), which allow different software platforms to communicate.
Minicor is developing automation infrastructure that enables AI applications to interact with existing desktop software without requiring businesses to replace their systems. Its platform allows developers to turn desktop workflows into API endpoints, making it easier for newer applications to communicate with older business tools.
The funding round was led by Brad Gillespie of IA Ventures, with participation from Y Combinator, Paul Graham, Pioneer Fund, Robinhood Ventures, Garage Capital, Rebel Fund, K5 Global and 20VC. The investment will support the company’s efforts to develop its technology and make AI integration easier for businesses.
Minicor’s approach could be useful in industries such as healthcare, financial services, automotive services and logistics, where organisations often rely on established software to manage important operations. Rather than forcing businesses to abandon these systems, the startup is building a way for them to benefit from newer AI technologies. Its progress also highlights the growing contribution of Nigerian-founded technology ventures to the global artificial intelligence industry.
