The Niger Delta Development Commission is inviting qualified indigenes of the region to apply for its Master’s degree scholarship, and the application costs nothing.
If you are from the Niger Delta and have been thinking about a Master’s degree but the cost keeps getting in the way, this call deserves your attention right now. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has opened applications for its 2026/2027 Local Post Graduate (Master’s Degree) Scholarship Programme, and the deadline is 8 November 2026, which leaves just under four weeks.
The Commission has also made one thing very clear. The application is completely free of charge, so no one should be paying anybody for a form, a slot, or a shortcut.
What The Scholarship Is About
The Local Post Graduate Scholarship is part of NDDC’s wider push to develop human capital in the Niger Delta. It is open to suitably qualified indigenes of the region who want to pursue a Master’s degree in a Nigerian university. According to reports on the call, the programme aims to support academic excellence and professional development in disciplines relevant to the development needs of the Niger Delta and the Federal Government’s Local Content Programme.
Who Can Apply
You must be an indigene of the Niger Delta region. The NDDC operates across nine states, which are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo, and Rivers.
Based on the eligibility criteria published for this call, applicants are also expected to meet the following.
- Be not older than 40 years of age
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of second class lower division and have completed NYSC, or hold a Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum of Upper Credit
- HND holders need a minimum of Upper Credit and, where applicable, a relevant Postgraduate Diploma
- Have a valid Local Government Identification Letter
- Have a postgraduate admission letter from a recognised Nigerian university
Reports on the call also say preference will be given to candidates from oil producing host communities, provided they meet the approved cut off mark. Submitting an application does not guarantee an offer of the scholarship.
Before You Apply
Here is what you need to keep in mind.
- It is free. The NDDC says the application is free of charge. Anyone asking you to pay is not acting for the Commission.
- Use official channels only. The Commission advises applicants to rely only on its official communication channels for information and updates.
- Do not leave it for the last week. Applicants are advised to apply early, since last minute rushes can mean portal delays.
- Check the details yourself. The notice does not list what the scholarship covers or the full requirements, so read everything on the NDDC website before you start.
- This is the Local scholarship. Do not confuse it with the Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship, whose earlier call has already closed.
Final Word: A Free Application Is Worth Your Time
Not every opportunity costs you nothing to try. This one asks only for your documents, your honesty, and a bit of preparation. If you are from the Niger Delta, meet the criteria, and have your admission letter and Local Government Identification Letter ready, there is no good reason to wait.
Start gathering your documents today and submit your application well before 8 November.
